Have you visited the Big Apple? "
I'm talking about "Big Apple". Not Manhattan, Kansas, affectionately known as "The Little Apple" to those who reside in the Jayhawk state. The Little Apple has its own characters, but perhaps not as colorful as what I described.
If you've spent some time walking the streets of New York, you've seen street vendors. They sell sunglasses, fruit, umbrellas, hats, books, CDs, DVDs, jewelry and many other items.
Most sellers display their wares on the tables of crude on the sidewalk. Some providers quietly sit on a bench reading a magazine until a passerby stops on his table. Others are more aggressive, shouting their agreement to anyone within reach ear: "perfumes and colognes! FOR $ 5! ANY BOTTLE $ 5! cologne for men. $ 5 LADIES PERFUME! $ 5!"
A half-second look at its direction immediately elicit a response. "Want to buy perfume for $ 5?"
You get the idea.
On a recent trip to New York, I passed a man wearing a Superman costume. New York is the city that is, the suit does not phase me. But he also wore a battered cowboy hat, had a bag hanging from each arm, and was dancing with the music blaring from a portable jambox (Yes, I wrote jambox. There is the iPod.) overhead carrying a poster: "purses. $ 10."
Superman was flimsy, but made up for his short stature with a huge smile. His job was to dance in the corner street, drawing the attention of the crowd. He went straight to the stakeholders to two friends which was 15 meters away near a table piled with bags of oil. "Purses" They shouted, "for $ 10! Any portfolio for $ 10!"
It appears they were the types of sales, was the marketing department.
Now what this has to do with their charity auction?
There are many ways to market a charity auction and a fun way is to engage your prospects in a way that was not expected. In other words, captures the perspectives of the guard, bring a smile to your face, and - heck - they may buy a ticket. Our Superman was doing just that.
Is this crazy idea of benefit auction?
Heck no! It's fun!
Last spring, one my clients' school auction and raffle promoted its charity auction in this way. The President of the Parents Association as a mime dressed to match the theme of Moulin Rouge auction. A week or two before the auction, spent a morning greeting all the parents, as they entered the school parking lot to leave his son. As a mime, I could not say anything, but all cars handed a leaflet advertising the auction and raffle. The President auction was close to answer questions and handle the transaction financial.
Corny .... or fun? I would say both. It is a unique way to capture the attention of your guests when they least expect it. They are shown that the auction is for fun and the game is starting ... now!
If you want to give this idea a shot, consider these tips:
1. It is necessary for the suit to be complex.
Simple costumes right. In fact, a simple garment could even help the promotion, especially if you are waiting for guests to arrive in costume for the auction. They will look at his costume as the "standard" and can see that it is not trying to beat someone with a costume, but try to have fun in creating an atmosphere.
2. Make a sign written in big letters to help observers make the connection between the suit and its purpose.
If you are selling raffle tickets, the sign should state something like, "Want to buy a raffle ticket $ 25? "If you're trying to sell tickets auction, the sign should reflect that.
3. Bring helpers.
If you are selling something requires a transaction in cash or credit, you need help managing the sales side, as he will be busy promoting. It is a division of labor.
4. Select your location with numbers in mind.
If you want to promote are a lot of people, but where guests are not necessarily as expected.
For a fundraising auction of the church auction planners who want to have their version of Superman to walk through the after coffee and tea fellowship. The drop or pick-up area in a school is a good place to promote the benefit to the school auction. Organizations nonprofit host a series of events that you want for the masked man (or woman) makes an appearance at the event immediately preceding the auction, as a tournament golf or wine tasting. 5. A "known" unknown entity is better than a "" entity.
Sure, you can hire an actor to put on suit, but the fun will plummet. Is to show potential customers that they will have fun dressing the part of the auction, because - look! - One of our own members (eg, the Board of parents ... ... deacons) is already entering into the spirit of the event.
Have fun with this! Your auction is a celebration annual fundraising and is to be enjoyed. Someone with a bit of humor can enjoy playing dress up to promote your fundraiser future.
