After being jobless for two weeks since the Kansas City Chiefs decided to release him, running back Larry Johnson has now signed a year-long contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson will receive $2 million from the Kansas City Chiefs and the prorated minimum, approximately $225,000 from [sv1] Cincinnati. The Bengals have a habit of scooping up troublesome players for low prices. The Chiefs dismissed Johnson after his second suspension of the year, when he posed a gay slur on his Twitter account and after his public questioning of the skills and experience of Todd Haley. Already sporting an unpleasant history, LJ was released from the team as a free agent two weeks ago when the Chiefs clearly decided to cut their losses. The Bengals acquired Johnson in a bid for backup aE" for life insurance, as the team said aE" for their all-star running back Cedric Benson, whose current backup is a sixth-round rookie. The issue becomes even more pressing as Benson is suffering from a hip injury that took its toll in the game against the Steelers on Sunday.

Although Benson is not expected to be sidelined for long, the team is looking for a secure replacement for the just-in-case. "That's what his role would be, it would be as a fourth running back and an opportunity as a backup player on this football team doing all the things backup players do, and that's work their tails off in the kicking game and showing looks and so forth that way," Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said. "And then he would be an insurance policy if something would happen down the line to one of our guys where he'd have a chance to be active.aE Johnson decided to fly to Cincinnati to talk person to person to the team's headquarters to finalize the deal. The player needs to maintain a low profile after his disgraceful antics in the past. Johnson was sidelined for three games by Kansas City coach Herm Edwards for violating the team rules and was suspended for one game by Commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league's conduct policy. He was accused of disturbing the peace twice and pleaded guilty, getting sentenced for a two-year probation. His performance, as he approaches 30, may have suffered in recent years aE" a foot injury in 2007 left him with only 559 yards and 3 touchdowns, while in 2008, he ran for 874 yards as the Chiefs sank to 2-14. His character, too, leaves much to be desired.

As a free agent, he cleared waivers, rejected by almost every team in the NFL. But 2006 shines like a beacon in his record. He rushed for 1,789 yards on only 416 carries, setting a team record and receiving a six-year deal worth $45 million, including $19 million guaranteed with the Chiefs. Now he's worth only a fraction of that money but still holds potential for the season. We'll see if he lives up to it for Cincinnati.

The current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards has one way out of the situation he is in and that is a vacant coaching job at San Diego State. For some reason, speculators attribute these rumors to how the Chiefs are performing in their 2008 season. But Edwards denies anything related to these rumors saying that he might as well coach the Chiefs which is similar to coaching a college team at that.

It might be his third year as coach for the Chiefs but he is thought to consider leaving because the Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is getting tired and losing patience with his coaching staff who continues giving him a bad performance since 2007. The team owner's stand though is questionable because he refuses to reveal anything to the media. Avoiding controversies perhaps. But every time he does grant a public conference, he expresses support for Coach Edward and his staff.

The 2008 season is the worst season for the Chiefs since it was first established as a franchise by Lamar Hunt in 1960. There were a lot of mistakes committed in a majority of their games. And the fans are losing interest too. They have grown impatient and angry with how their team is playing. This is evident with the presence of empty seats in the Arrowhead stadium which reaches thousands in number.

People continue to blame the Kansas City Chiefs' president and general manager Carl Peterson for the losses that the Chiefs are facing. Yet a good number of these losses are also attributed to coach Edwards when he was hired after the 2005 season. However, the Chiefs performance is largely due to the fact that they are the youngest team in the NFL and a lot of mistakes of the youth were expected. The team also faced an injury epidemic which contributed to misery.

The Chiefs team experienced two of their victories in 1977 and performed at their worst in a non-strike 16-game season with a 4-12 record. Currently, the Chiefs do have a good chance in winning their games but because of some faulty plays they fail to do so. The team has the worst pass rush since the NFL began.

Head coach Edwards continue deny any rumors associated with possible career changes. Instead, he plans to rebuild the team and improve their performance so that they will bear fruit in the end. Coach Edward is focusing on certain members of his team to develop fully. Even if they have very young players, they recognize the talents and capabilities that each one has. They have very good players who are getting even better as the days go by.

It is really tough for the Kansas City Chiefs to perform well with such a new team. All of them realize that they have to trudge forward despite the difficulties they are facing. Yet with their youth, they are more than willing to battle all the challenges that are given to them each time they play against a different team in the field. Give them a few more years to turn into a well-loved football team.

Last week, a friend told me, have you heard about the Nebraska football? Living in North Carolina, is extremely difficult to obtain notice or analyze all teams outside the ACC and the SEC. Let me begin my analysis by saying that I think Nebraska fans are one of three fans in country, if not number one. When his winning streak was broken by the home state of Kansas, fans gave the Wildcats a standing ovation as he walked off the Memorial Stadium victorious. Memorial Stadium currently holds the record of 291 consecutive Sellouts. Anyone who feels Nebraska fans are not faithful are kidding themselves. That said, the passion Nebraska fans, it is often difficult for the coaches because they are necessary to win the championship, not winning seasons.

I do not see Nebraska play this year, but I can say a lot of statistics and opponents. Nebraska has not had significant competition, but it's good to see return to its base, running the ball and playing defense, non-folding. Through three games, Nebraska is averaging 189 yards per game. Last year, Nebraska lasted only 144.4 yards per game. Most important statistics all of Nebraska in 2008, rushed to the defense. Last year, seriously, it was laughable the Nebraska defense was fever. They gave high 232.2 yards per game! Must have been one of the worst rush defenses in Nebraska has had in its history. Then, some Nebraska fans confirm this for me? This year, with Bo Pelini returning to Lincoln, Nebraska, dropped 77.67 yards per game. This is an improvement to 154 yards.

I'm not sure how it will play the season, but I hope that Nebraska can return to the top ten as soon as Alabama did. Cornhusker fans know that does not accept mediocrity. I think Bo Pelini is the man for the job because they do not bring back the black shirts defense and force teams to throw the ball instead of running right down their throats.

The Virginia Tech game this weekend should explain much about Nebraska, which moves in the short term. Even if the short term is not as bright as many fans want it to be, the future this program will be in good hands if they run the ball and play strong defense.

Kansas City Chiefs tickets are experiencing a bit of a surge in popularity now that the NFL Draft is over. The Chiefs had what many considered to be the best draft performance of any team. Just check out all the grades they received from the various sportscasters. Most of the experts gave the Chiefs an A for their Draft picks. But who did they pick, and who will their choices effect their stats from last year? Let’s dive right in. But first, remember to get some Kansas City Chiefs tickets to see all of the new players.

The highlight of the Kansas City team, stats-wise was their pass defense. The Chiefs only allowed 3,022 yards through the air, and only 17 passing touchdowns, both of which were well above the league average. As individuals, eight different Kansas City Chiefs caught interceptions, although their team total in INTs, 14, was unremarkable compared to other NFL teams. One more player will probably get an interception this next season, as the Chiefs got one of the best CBs in the draft in the second round. Brandon Flowers from VT, although somewhat small, has a good chance of doing well in the NFL. He was the Chief’s third pick in the draft, but the 35th overall.

The Chiefs also helped out their defensive run-stopping ability. For the No. 5 overall pick, Kansas City picked up Glen Dorrsey, whom was considered by some to be the best available player overall. Last year KC held their opponents to only 11 rushing touchdowns, which ranked them 12th in the league in that stat. They should be even better with Dorsey plugging holes. He will be a starter and an instant difference-maker from day one.

As you might know, the Chiefs were in the bottom of the NFL in yards gained per rushing attempt (3.3) rushing touchdowns (6) and had the NFL’s lowest total rushing yardage after the regular season ended (1,248). Perhaps that’s why they elected to use both their second and fourth picks to add to the running game. The Chiefs picked up offensive lineman Branden Albert in the first round (#15 overall) and then they got a running back with the potential to play some downs next year in fourth round pick Jamaal Charles (#73 overall). Albert will start unless the sun doesn’t rise tomorrow, and that should instantly make things better for the Chiefs, who need help guarding the pass rush and getting holes for their RBs. If these new player pan out, Kansas City Chiefs tickets will allow you to see many more winning games.
